Wool Socks

There is a great deal to be said for a traditional pure new wool shooting sock, particularly when the weather turns colder and you are spending long days outdoors. Wool has been used in country clothing for generations, and for very good reason. Naturally warm, breathable and remarkably hard-wearing, it is a wonderful material for shooting socks. We have always had a particular fondness for traditional wool socks here at The Shooting Sock Company, and after more than 20 years in the industry, they remain an important part of our collection. Whether you are stood on a peg, beating, picking-up or simply enjoying a winter walk, a good pair of wool shooting socks is something you will find yourself returning to year after year.

One of the things that makes wool such an excellent choice for shooting socks is the natural structure of its fibres. Wool has a gentle crimp that creates tiny pockets of air within the yarn, providing excellent insulation and helping to keep feet warm in colder conditions. At the same time, it is naturally breathable and helps to manage moisture, making it comfortable to wear throughout a long day in the field. Wool fibres also have a natural elasticity, allowing the socks to move comfortably with your feet and helping them retain their shape. Combined with wool's inherent strength and durability, these qualities make it particularly well suited to socks that need to work hard. Our Penrith Shooting Socks are a lovely example of a traditional wool design, offering the natural warmth and comfort that make wool such a popular choice for country wear.

As with all our collections, our pure new wool shooting socks are proudly knitted in Britain by specialist manufacturers whose knowledge and craftsmanship we value enormously. We believe that good materials and thoughtful construction are just as important as the colours and patterns we create, and wool continues to prove its worth season after season. From simple, traditional designs to a choice of classic country shades, this collection is particularly suited to those who appreciate comfort, warmth and practicality. Whether you are looking for a reliable sock for the shooting season or something warm and comfortable for everyday country life, our Pure New Wool Collection offers a lovely selection of British-made favourites. Sometimes the traditional materials really are hard to beat.
